Choy Lee Fut

Kung fu is for self defence, Protect, I block, he knows
— Sifu Jin Chan

We study Toisan village Choy Lee Fut. Created for self defence, it is useful for fighting more then one person at a time if necessary. We utilize short to mid range bridges, trapping and long range strikes. Our footwork and stances are based upon subtle angle shifting “trotting of a rat with the grace of the crane.” Our lineage arrived to Canada in 1959 from Wo Cheung village, Toisan, China, With the late Grandmaster Jin Chan. It transmitted first to the late Sifu Ming Chow (master calligrapher, speech writer and artist, who created the signage for most of the original businesses in Toronto’s old Chinatown) then to Sifu Mo Chow. Sifu Jin Chan for many years taught a hand full of students privately, while at Hong Luck he taught weapon forms, he was known for critiquing, polishing the two man forms. In 2012 after the passing of Grandmaster Paul Chan, respectfully Sifu Jin Chan started a class teaching hand and weapon forms to the students who were there.

Grandmaster Mo Chow at his own club taught his son Ian Chow, Sifu Ian respectfully later on also studied privately with the late Grandmaster Jin Chan. The Jin Chan/ Mo Chow lineage of Toisan Choy Lee Fut lives within NLSF Mo Kwoon today.
